The upstream of biomanufacturing in agriculture covers three major areas: germplasm/chassis and raw materials, process equipment and testing, and formulation and carrier. It is the common "foundation" of microbial fertilizers, biopesticides, biofeeds and animal health products. (3) Process equipment and utilities: seed tanks and fermentation tanks (stainless steel/disposable bag type), online sensors (DO, pH, infrared CO2, soft measurement), upstream and downstream separation and purification (centrifugation, plate and frame, ceramic membrane, chromatography, extraction, spray/belt/freeze drying, microencapsulation/coating, granulation and membrane), liquid preparation/blending/filling lines, cleanroom and CIP/SIP systems; utilities (steam, chilled water, compressed air, pure water, sewage treatment and waste heat recovery). (4) Testing and quality standards: microbial count and limits of contaminants, content of active ingredients and enzyme activity, toxicology and ecotoxicology, physicochemical properties and stability, traceable batch records and sample retention. The overall pattern shows that transnational processes and core consumables still have an advantage, while local areas are catching up rapidly in fermentation raw materials, separation materials, some equipment and disposable consumables. Equipment and culture media can achieve a high proportion of domestic substitution, but breakthroughs are still needed in ultra-high-end online analysis and key membrane/chromatographic materials.
Demand side covers planting, feed and breeding, animal health and public health.
